The picture above is the Flyonel Santa FE 8551 GP-20 made in 1986 with the shell removed and no changes made as yet.

 

 

The picture above shows the shell along side with the TMCC electronics placed in the shell to check room and layout for the addition of locomotive control as well as sound. The speaker (top center) is placed in a vitamin cap which will function as a baffle. Just to the right of the speaker is a Beep Commander Driver board complete with R2LC, and to the right of that directly in the nose is a Sound Commander. (all from Electric RailRoad)

At this point I have still not removed the original electronic reverse unit which is still bolted to the chassis.

The shell is disconnected, and all components are wired up for testing on the track. During this stage I will set the feature codes on the beep commander as well as make sure forward operation is correct at startup as will as testing directional head lights. (the shell will be set on top for the light tests, but movement will be just enough to verify directional light hookup)
